We are proud supporters of the Lighthouse charity, who are the only charity that provides financial and emotional support to the construction community and their families who have suffered an injury, long term illness or simply need a helping hand with financial or emotional matters.
Bill Hill, CEO of the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity said “With two construction workers taking their own life every day, we have to take action now. We can only widen our helpline services and develop our Building Mental Health Programme with the vital support of organisations like Dynamic Electrical Solutions who have pledged an annual donation of £1000 to our charity. We’d like to thank the whole team there for getting involved and helping us to make a difference”.
This is a cause close to our hearts, not only because we work within the construction industry but also because my wife’s father suffered an industry related head injury when she was just 5 years old. Unfortunately as a result of the accident he lost all memory of his wife and children and after a tough recovery period he spiralled into a state of mind where he ultimately wished to start his life anew, leaving behind the family who once relied upon him. My wife is lucky to have salvaged a relationship with her father and after recently learning about this amazing charity, we are now on a mission to raise funding and awareness for them.
We are also passionate about promoting good mental health and the Lighthouse ensures that vital support is there for anyone feeling the strains of the construction industry, the statistic Bill mentions above is in the UK alone, and the Lighthouse could provide a very real lifeline for someone suffering.
Like many charities, they do not receive public funding and rely on supporters like us to run the following services:
- 24/7 confidential helpline
- Emergency financial aid
- Advice on occupational health and mental wellbeing
- Support on legal, tax and debt management matters
The charity was founded in 1956 and has already distributed over £17.5 million to over 16,500 construction workers and their families. We have pledged to donate annually and will also be completing some ad-hoc fund raising on their behalf – we will keep you posted of our progress!
